George Santos crashed the State of the Union and announced a comeback bid for Congress. But with the way things in Washington have been going lately, it may be what Congress deserves. I have made several personal… — George Santos (@MrSantosNY) March 8, 2024It's the latest stunt for the scandal-plagued lawmaker, who never seemed to take the job of being a member of Congress all that seriously. Former Rep. George Santos seen on the House floor for #SOTU2024. Three members of Congress were censured, an increasingly meaningless rebuke that may have backhandedly delivered one of them a Senate seat.

Trump could testify as soon as Monday in the defamation trial over his 2019 comments branding Carroll a liar who faked a sexual attack to sell a memoir. He plans to be in court as the New York trial resumes after a weekend break. He regularly addressed the news cameras waiting outside the fraud trial in a New York state court. He lied, and he shattered my reputation,” Carroll, a former longtime Elle magazine advice columnist, told jurors and Trump while he was still in court. Trump has said his lawyers advised him not to dignify the first trial by attending it.

CNN —As fighting continues between Israel and Hamas, many may wonder why this war — and, more broadly, the decades-long Israeli–Palestinian conflict — is so intractable. A feature of sacred values is that they cannot be traded-off with profane values like material incentives to compromise. When each side was offered foreign aid to incentivize the deal, it produced a backfire effect among those who held sacred values. When a symbolic concession was offered, those holding sacred values were less angered and disgusted by the deal, and support for violent opposition plummeted. Carrot-and-stick policies, such as the promise of foreign aid coupled with the threat of sanctions, backfire when presented to those holding sacred values.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump has attracted a lot of attention for his lead in the polls and the money race, but he’s also already ahead in an essential area that’s gotten less notice: the delegate process. Republicans often point to Jeff Roe, who is leading the pro-DeSantis super PAC, as an expert on the delegate process. The delegate process rivalry between DeSantis and Trump speaks to the overall strategy of many of these campaigns. Trump’s state party advantageIn 2016, the idea that Donald Trump would eventually have deep roots with state Republican party officials seemed outlandish. The Trump campaign denies the former president ever made such a comment.

Florida middle schoolers will be taught that some Black "slaves developed skills" they could benefit from. In response, DeSantis' campaign staffers compared Donalds to Vice President Kamala Harris. Wednesday evening, hours after Donalds' tweet was published, Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. took a jab at the congressman online. "Supposed conservatives in the federal government are pushing the same false narrative that originated from the White House," DeSantis press secretary in the Executive Office of the Governor, Jeremy Redfern, tweeted. Christina Pushaw, the DeSantis presidential campaign's rapid response director, simply responded to Donalds' original tweet with a GIF of the vice president.

July 17 (Reuters) - Britain rejected accusations by Russia on Monday that British intelligence services might have been involved in an attack on Russia's bridge to Crimea. Russia's deputy U.N. ambassador, Dmitry Polyanskiy, said on Monday, without providing any evidence, that British intelligence services might have been involved in the attack that killed two, injured a girl, and damaged the bridge. "I have not heard any condemnation of this act of terrorism from any of the Western sponsors of the Kiev regime," Polyanskiy told the United Nations Security Council. "And we have yet to figure out to what extent Western, in particular British intelligence agencies, were involved in the preparation and implementation of this terrorist attack. The Village People have asked Trump to stop using their music and likeness at his events. The letter said a cover band's recent performance of "Macho Man" at Mar-a-Lago caused "public confusion." The letter requested that Trump stop using the band's music and likeness at his events. "The performance has, and continues to cause, public confusion as to why Village People would even engage in such a performance," Willis wrote. The Village People are not the first, and likely won't be the last, musicians to demand Trump stop using their music — artists like Rihanna, Adele, and Elton John have also voiced their disapproval.

New Delhi CNN —India has banned a BBC documentary critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged role in deadly riots more than 20 years ago from being shown in the country, in a move critics decried as an assault on press freedom. CNN has contacted Twitter and YouTube for comment but is yet to hear back. The two-part documentary “India: The Modi Question,” criticizes Modi, who was the chief minister of the western state of Gujarat in 2002 when riots broke out between the state’s majority Hindus and minority Muslims. The Indian government had declined to reply when contacted by the BBC, the statement added. The documentary explores an unpublished British government report obtained by the BBC, which the British public broadcaster said came in the form of a diplomatic cable.

REUTERS/Amit Dave/File PhotoNEW DELHI, Jan 19 (Reuters) - India's foreign ministry on Thursday dismissed a BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi which questioned his leadership during the 2002 Gujarat riots as "propaganda". Accused of failing to stop the rioting, Modi denied the accusations and was exonerated in 2012 following an inquiry by India's top court. Terming the BBC documentary a "propaganda piece" meant to push a "discredited narrative", foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said a "bias", "lack of objectivity", and "continuing colonial mindset" is "blatantly visible" in it. "We offered the Indian Government a right to reply to the matters raised in the series – it declined to respond," a BBC spokesperson said.
